Most young skaters begin skating in group lessons.
The Breezy Point Skating Academy offers a class for ages 4 and 5 called "Snowplow Sam", which teaches the very basics of skating such as starting, stopping, stroking, turning, balance and coordination.
For skaters aged 6 to adult who have completed the Snowplow Sam series or have some previous skating experience, the "Basic Skills" class focuses on honing the fundamentals and increasing speed, power, strength, through successive levels of ability.
Whether your interest is competitive figure skating or recreational skating the Learn to Skate program is a fun and cost-effective introduction to the sport in a safe and supportive environment.
Bridge Class for Figure Skaters
Once your skater has learned the basics, the next step is to enroll in the Club's Bridge Classes, so called because they are a "bridge" or transition to a more advanced level of skating.
The Bridge Class focuses on mastering the basic skills and getting the skater ready for possible membership in the Breezy Point Figure Skating Club and a more competitive structure.
